Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks further reduce operational complexity for Carrier Ethernet Transport networks

IT, NewMedia & Software

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 23, 2011 - Carrier Ethernet Solutions, the joint venture between Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR), has announced Carrier Ethernet Transport 2.0 (CET) which helps operators to balance capacity and cost in their networks. CET 2.0 includes two new Ethernet access switches, Nokia Siemens Networks' A-Series 1200 and 1210, which offer higher capacity and lower cost to the Ethernet access network. It also includes new features for the ASPEN network management system. Fixed and mobile service providers will be able to benefit from these improvements in terms of reduced operational costs, faster time to market for new services and advanced visibility into their network wide operations.

CET 2.0 is designed for operators that offer business and residential services as well as fiber rich mobile backhaul. It is a step towards fully integrated and managed end-to-end Carrier Ethernet Transport. Correspondingly, ASPEN adds Connection Analyzer, which tracks performance and enables fault isolation, enabling the service provider to monitor performance and availability against service level agreements. In addition, it features alarm management capabilities unique to packet based networks.

By easing operational tasks, service providers can profit from reduced cost and a faster time to market for new services through comprehensive service provisioning and management capabilities. Simultaneously, CET 2.0 can improve customer satisfaction by detecting potential bottle necks and resolving problems more quickly.

"Service providers worldwide are facing huge pressure to balance capacity and cost in their networks. Our joint solution is significantly lowering cost and simplifying the overall service management for carrier Ethernet," said Dror Nemirovsky, head of the packet networks business at Nokia Siemens Networks.

"Built on proven, industry-leading technology, Juniper's MX Series is recognized as the industry's premier Ethernet services platform. By adding comprehensive service provisioning and management capabilities to ASPEN and multi-service access to the A-series platforms, carriers can get hold of an advanced and integrated base for their new services," said Rami Rahim, senior vice president, Edge and Aggregation business unit, Juniper Networks.

Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks will present CET 2.0 during CTIA 2011 in Orlando, Florida, March 22-24.
